The Play

Set in the smoking area of a corporate building over the period of a week, a bunch of office employees discuss appraisals, politics, and relationships, all the while dealing with their stress, fears, and insecurities. The play is a comedy about the rat race, how we cope with it, and what we put our throat and lungs through in the process. 

The Director

The proprietor of Akvarious Productions, AkarshKhurana has produced over 60 plays in the last 16 years, of which he has directed over 20. Akarsh won the award for Best Director twice at Thespo (India’s premier youth theatre festival) for his early work and went on to be nominated four times for Best Director at the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (and won once for Stage Design). Six Akvarious productions have been nominated for the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards and two have won the prestigious award for Best Play. He has also written screenplays for feature films (Krrish, U Me aur Hum, Kites, Krrish 3), directed two cineplays and a television movie for AnuragBasu (Real FM). He has recently co-written a web series called Tripling for the folks at TVF.

The Playwright

AdhirBhat has been acting on the professional stage since 2007, and has in the course of the last 10 years acted in more than 25 plays and written 4 hugely successful productions. He has also regularly featured in commercials, films and a couple of television shows. His most recent prominent work includes a principal part in the Indian version of 24 (TV series). On stage, he has acted in numerous Akvarious productions and has been part of the winning ensemble at the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards twice, for Baghdad Wedding and Gasha.

The Actor

Clearly one of the best and most versatile actors that the contemporary Indian stage can boast of, Kumud Mishra first got hooked to the theatre in the military school that he went to in Belgaum, Karnataka. After school, Kumud returned to his family in Bhopal. Bhopal opened yet another fascinating world as far as theatre was concerned. Kumud would enthusiastically participate in different productions and worked under directors like Alakhandan, BansiKaul, AlokChatterjee, John Martin,. He also worked for PrabhatGanguly’s ‘The Little Ballet Theatre’ and participated in the Festival of India in USSR. This was in 1989.

In 1990-91’ Kumud joined the National School of Drama. After graduating from NSD he moved to Mumbai in 1994. Since then he has worked with some of the finest directors including Pt. SatyadevDubey, Sunil Shanbag, ManavKaul, AbhishekMajumdar and AkarshKhurana. Some of his ongoing plays are Kaumudi, Dhumrapaan, Muktidham, Ilhaam, ShakkarkePaanchDaane and Bali aurShambhu. His career in cinema has taken an upswing after Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar

The Group

A group of enterprising Mumbai based actors have come together to create this group. Unlike a traditional theatre group where writers or directors invite actors to work with them, this group of actors’ vision is to collaborate with a different set of writers and directors and creating unique works of theatre each time. D for DRAMA was formed in 2013 by Kumud Mishra, GhanshyamLalsa&SaurabhNayyar.
